Cast and Crew
Samah Adam (Francisca/Mariana) is excited to be a part of Measure for Measure in this year's production with Seoul Shakespeare Company. Coming from London, UK, Samah had done some work with Shakespeare previously on stage, though this would be her debut on stage in Seoul, South Korea. She would like to thank the Company for their wonderful work and is looking forward to her ideas coming alive on the big stage!
Keigan Adams (Gentleman 2/Elbow) is a writer and performer hailing from South Africa, with a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. His conventional medium is prose and he has spent the past few years readying pieces for publishing, with one hand scribing away toward a future PhD in Poetics and Composition. Measure for Measure is one of his first significant acting opportunities since university, where he had produced, written and acted in plays and one comedic short film. He is interested in exploring a range of genres and media, and would like to become more experienced in filmed storytelling. In 2018, he participated in the 48 Hour Film Challenge in Seoul, and, following a long break from live performance, returned, entering stage right, to play Dr. Frank N. Furter in Seoul Players’ 2022 Rocky Horror Shadowcast. Measure for Measure is his first experience performing with Seoul Shakespeare Company.
Natalie Baklayan (Lighting Designer) is a current Korean University student in the School of Media and Communication. She was formerly taught in Los Angeles through the Blank Theatre Company and later received her Associate in Film, Television, and Electronic Media from Cypress College. With seven-plus years of theatre and film experience, Natalie has worked a plethora of jobs ranging from live video director for concert productions to stage manager. With her work as a stage manager for The American Clock, she was awarded the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Natalie aims to continue to work in Korea after graduation and expand upon her experience within the live broadcasting field. This is her first time working alongside the Seoul Shakespeare Company, and she is excited and thankful for the opportunity.
Martin Boswell (Duke Vincentio) received training and a BFA from the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. Favorite roles include Martin Vanderhoff in You Can’t Take it With You (Greer Garson Theatre) and Austin in True West (Boxcar Theatre). Shakespeare credits include Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (GMT Productions), Fabian in Twelfth Night (Shakespeare in Santa Fe), and Gloucester in King Lear (Seoul Shakespeare). Mr. Boswell most recently appeared in Seoul Shakespeare’s original production of Demon in My View, an adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s work, where he performed "The Raven".
J.C. Brown (Officer) is an American actor born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He has most recently performed in Seoul Players' 10 Minute Play Festival and in a number of productions with the Choongdong Theatre Troupe. J.C. can often be found playing on the improv stage at the Funtastic Theater and walking his pug around the narrow streets of Jayang-dong, East Seoul. Working with the talented cast and crew of Measure For Measure has been a wonderful experience for J.C., opening his eyes to the rich and rewarding world of Shakespearean theater. He is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this production and to share his passion for the stage with such talented artists.
Francesca Bujdák (Juliet/Costume Design) was born in Berlin, Germany, and studied acting for two years at Berliner Schule für Schauspiel. As a child voice actress for German TV and movies, she experienced the field of acting from a young age. She participated in several theater productions as well. Currently Francesca lives in Korea and works mainly as a translator and voice actress for a children’s book company. Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure is her first theater production abroad.
Amanda Conkey (Mistress Overdone/Barnadine) is very excited to be a part of Measure for Measure after the long theatre drought. For Seoul Shakespeare Company she acted in "For Annie", "The Tell-Tale Heart", and "The Conqueror Worm" in 2022's Demon in My View, and as Curan in 2019's King Lear. She was also involved on the technical side for both productions. She has also participated in Seoul Player's 10 Minute Play Festivals in 2019 and 2022. Amanda studied Theatre at Eastern Connecticut State University, where she received a BA with a triple focus in Acting, Directing, and Stage Management. For fun, Amanda enjoys going to art cafes and escape rooms, as well as shooting orcs at VR cafes. She can also often be found fangirling over various bands with her friends. She wants to thank her friends and family for always supporting her and putting up with all the "Sorry I can't go, I have rehearsal" messages. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Jason Lane Cutler (Angelo) is an actor and tutor from the United States. For Seoul Shakespeare Company: Montresor in Demon in My View; Kent in King Lear; Lancelot/Tubal/Jailer in The Merchant of Venice; Brandon in Garage (also a co-writer); First Lord/Jailer/Shepherd in The Winter’s Tale; and Borachio/Friar in Much Ado About Nothing. For Haeboma Theatre Company: Young William/Reporter in Hello, My Friend!. For Probationary Theatre: Andrew in Becky Shaw; Doctor Rank in A Doll’s House; and Declan in Goucho. Korean film roles include Alcock in Birth and First Sergeant Greg in Swing Kids. Voice acting roles run the gamut of games, advertisements, museum guides, narration, AI tutors, test preparation, and education.
Mark Dorman (Friar Peter/Abhorson) (he/him) is honored to be a part of this cast. He's been acting his whole life and doesn't think there's anything else like theater. Some highlights have been playing the lead in Lend Me a Tenor, playing the horse in Man of La Mancha, and playing the Devil himself in an Easter play. It's been a great ride and he's looking forward to the next stop.
Louis Groves (Pompey) has been involved with the Seoul theatre community for a few years now. This is his second production with Seoul Shakespeare company and he has worked with Seoul Players as both a performer and director in their Ten-Minute Play Festival. He has also worked behind stage with The Collective in their recent performance of Booty Candy. He completed a major in performing arts at the University of Winchester and has been involved in a variety of projects over the years from devised black box theatre to summer Shakespeare productions at South Hill Park Art Centre in the United Kingdom.
Jamie Horan (Director) has been involved in some facet of theatre since he was six years old. He got his training at The Playhouse Community Theater in North Carolina, appearing in productions including Treasure Island (Jim Hawkins), 12 Angry Jurors (Juror #11), and Brighton Beach Memoirs (Eugene Morris Jerome). After receiving a BA in Theatre from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Jamie appeared in Your Place…or Mine? at the New York Fringe Festival. He is the managing director of Seoul Shakespeare Company, with which he has been active since 2015. Stage credits for SSC include Titus Andronicus (Saturninus), Much Ado About Nothing (Benedick), The Winter’s Tale (Leontes), The Merchant of Venice (Antonio), Garage (David), and Demon in My View (Fortunato). He has written numerous plays that have been featured in Seoul Players’ 10-Minute Play Festival such as Natural Enemy, Michael Prince’s Capstone Performance (with Jo Palazuelos-Krukowski), Bunny Man, Warlock Fight!, Fishies, and Before the Morning Rush, and directed their 2019 main stage production of The Birds. He would like to thank SSC for their support, his actors for their hard work, and his wife for her love and understanding.
Charles Jeong (Lucio) is the Artistic Director of Seoul Shakespeare Company. He is committed to the company’s goal of presenting Shakespeare’s works to audiences in Korea by producing shows, designing graphics, making props, translating the plays and making subtitles. His biggest passion for Shakespeare, however, lies in acting the characters. As an actor, he has performed in numerous productions in both English and Korean. His former roles include Chiron in Titus Andronicus (2014), Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing (2016), Autolycus in The Winter's Tale (2017), Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice (2018) and Edgar in King Lear (2019).
Rory Kelly (Provost) is an actor, playwright, improviser and stand up comedian from England. Measure for Measure marks his debut with Seoul Shakespeare Company. His previous acting roles include The Emperor in Amadeus, Pishik in The Cherry Orchard and Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. His plays, such as Rob and Roberta and Mother and the Monster, have been performed all over the world. In October 2022 he performed his first stand-up special, Thank You, Sorry!, receiving rave reviews. He can be caught doing stand-up comedy in Gyeongnidan every second Friday and improv in Samgakji every second and last Saturday of the month.
Evan Hyunsoo Kim (Assistant Stage Manager) (he/they) is a passionate theatre goer and creator. Studied BA Comparative Literature at University College London, but their fondest memory of university is their work with UCL Drama Society, Musical Theatre Society, and Shakespeare Society, particularly directing a Julius Caesar set in 1970s-80s South Korea. Their goal is to one day make a theatre company entirely comprised of the queer and genderweird, and to come up with a clear vision for directing every play in the Shakespeare canon with a Korean history or culture twist.
Josh Kroot (Escalus) was bitten by the acting bug at the age of seven and has been performing in some capacity or another for the past twenty-five years. With experience in film, theater, voiceover, and opera, Josh has had roles in his hometown of Chicago as well as Denver, Tel-Aviv, Vienna, and Seoul. Josh has previously played Camillo in The Winter’s Tale and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice with Seoul Shakespeare Company, and is delighted to be returning as Escalus in Measure for Measure.
Jungsoo Lee (Messenger) is a model/actor based in Seoul. She was introduced to the charm of acting and theatre through expat theatre groups in Seoul. She took on the roles of Iris and the Inspector in Seoul Players’ production of The Birds and played the role of the older sister in the horror play Paper and Ink. In the independent film Become a Yes Bitch, she appeared as Esther. This is her first Shakespearean play, and she feels incredibly honored to be experiencing it with Seoul Shakespeare Company. Maryssa McNamara (Props Master) (She/Her) This is Maryssa's first production with Seoul Shakespeare. Hailing from the U.S., she currently works as an English teacher in Gangwon-do. Outside of Props Master, Maryssa has dabbled in creative roles like directing (Adrian College), acting (The Penny Seats Theatre), and scenic art (The Contemporary American Theatre Festival). She is in talks to join the Peace Corps to serve as a teaching volunteer in Namibia later this year.
Lauren Ramsden (Isabella) has been involved in theatre from a young age, having been cast in many school musicals and plays. During her studies at the University of Birmingham, Lauren was very active in the drama society before the pandemic halted activities. This included participating in the choruses of Rent and The Wedding Singer, as well as being part of the companies of Lights Over Tesco Carpark, a reimagining of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (Brutus), and a comedic student-written play, Confessions of the Romantically Challenged. The latter two were taken to the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival after receiving positive feedback in Birmingham. Currently, Lauren is teaching English in Korea but hopes to pursue formal acting studies when she returns to the UK. This is Lauren's first production with Seoul Shakespeare Company and her stage debut outside of school and university productions. She is thrilled to be part of this fantastic production!
Maria Fernanda Silva (Kate Keepdown/ Gentleman 1/ Froth) is from Venezuela and is a Seoul-based actress, director and teaching artist. She holds a BA in Theatre from Hanyang University and is currently pursuing an MFA in Theatre for Young Audiences at Korea National University of Arts. She has had the great honor and pleasure to be involved with the Expat Theatre Community since 2016. Including Seoul Shakespeare Company productions of Much Ado About Nothing (Assistant Director, Assistant Stage manager) and King Lear (Cordelia); and Seoul Players’ main stage production of The Birds (Trochilus/ Leader/Chorus) and 10-minute play festival(s).
Sarah Smith (Stage Manager) (Pronouns: she/her) A statesman, a gentle woman, and a scholar. Sarah has been stage managing for one and a half years, and had the pleasure of producing musicals and plays such as Into the Woods, Demon in My View, and now the well-balanced Measure for Measure.
Jeff Wagner (Claudio) has been active in the Seoul theater community since 2015, appearing in productions by Seoul Players, The Collective, and Seoul Shakespeare Company. Measure for Measure will be Jeff's fifth production with Seoul Shakespeare Company, previously appearing in Much Ado About Nothing as Dogberry, The Winter's Tale as Bohemia, Merchant of Venice as Bassanio, and King Lear as Albany. Jeff is thrilled to be on the stage once again and wants to thank his wife Eugene for her love and support.
